OUR STORY

The Strum Perfect was invented by James Lenger, a career guitar teacher, founder of the Guitar Cities instruction schools, where he has given over 90,000 private lessons, each one catered to the individual student. During his time instructing, James had also competed for Team USA in an event called the Modern Pentathlon. Having been coached by some of the world’s best coaches in technique for the sport, he took note about the importance of technique, movement, and muscle memory. The combination of this unique background would be applied to his lessons, providing a one-of-a-kind approach to learning the guitar. As a result, many of his students have made the guitar a lifelong hobby, and for some, a career.

After his time with Team USA, James returned 100% of his focus to instructing guitar, and how it could be done better, continuing to refine his approach in instructing. Always modifying his teaching based on how students responded, he started placing an emphasis on the strumming hand, as students learning in-person and online would continue to have issues making their rhythm sound relaxed. The question was often posed, “why don’t I sound like the bands I am listening to?”

The simple answer - the strumming hand gives the guitar player the “character” they are looking for in their playing. Think of it like an effective spokesperson; they can say the proper words, but if there are no dynamics in their voice, proper inflection, or accents, their message can get lost through redundancy.
